What Screenity can do
What you can do with the Screenity extension on its own, and what an account adds across recording, editing, sharing, exporting and managing your plan.
Screenity is a tool for recording, editing and sharing videos. You can use the Chrome extension on its own without an account, or sign in to also use the Screenity web app.
Without an account, you use the extension, which is open source and records on your device. With an account, you also get the web app, which includes the editor, your library, sharing and cloud features. Accounts currently need a subscription or an available trial. Terms such as scene, layout and instant recording are defined in the glossary, and common questions are answered in the FAQ.
Note:Recordings made with the extension without an account are saved on your computer and are not sent to a server. To keep working on one in the web app, download it and upload it. The upload becomes a separate project, so edits do not sync between the two. The camera and screen are combined into a single video, so you cannot separate them or change the camera layout afterward.
At a glance
- The standalone extension can record at up to 4K and 60 fps, depending on your device and screen. See Change recording quality.
- The extension is open source and records on your device without an account. See Privacy and your data.
- Extension recordings have no watermark.
- In the web app, you can choose from 99 spoken languages for transcripts, or leave the language on Automatic. See Edit a video with its transcript.
- In the web app, AI can draft a title, a summary and chapters from the transcript of a new recording. It runs on EU-hosted providers and can be turned off in Preferences. You can also write titles, descriptions and chapters yourself. See Edit a title and description and Add chapters to a video.
- Silences and filler words can be removed from a transcribed video. Filler words are detected in eight languages. See Edit a video with its transcript.
- The web app exports MP4, GIF, audio only, a single frame as JPG, PNG or WebP, and captions as SRT, VTT or plain text. See Export and download a video.
- A shared video can be private, open to anyone with the link, protected by a password, or available as an embed only. See Share a video.

Limits and requirements
- The extension runs on a computer with a supported Chromium-based browser, such as Chrome. The web editor and recorder are intended for a desktop browser. See Extension requirements.
- The extension can record without an internet connection after you install and set it up online. Google Drive and account features need a connection.
- GIF export is for short clips: the extension accepts videos of up to 30 seconds, and the web app makes a GIF of 3, 5 or 10 seconds. Editing and MP4 export can be unavailable for long recordings. See Editing long recordings.
- Uploading several videos at once accepts up to 25 MP4 or WebM files, each no larger than 250 MB.
- If an upload or recording cannot start because your account is out of storage, delete videos or scenes you no longer need. Videos in Trash count toward storage until they are permanently deleted. See Manage your storage.
Warning:If a subscription or trial ends, you can no longer record, edit or publish until you resubscribe. After a trial that does not convert, public links and embeds stop working and your videos become eligible for deletion after 30 days. After a paid subscription ends, your videos remain saved and public links and embeds continue for 90 days, then become private. See Trials and subscriptions and the Terms of Service.
