Annotate while recording

Draw on a supported web page before or during a recording using Screenity’s arrows, shapes, text and other drawing tools.

Use the drawing tools to annotate a supported web page before or during a recording.

Note:

These drawing tools mark up the page while you record. To add text, shapes or images to a recording afterwards, use the web editor. A standalone recording must first be downloaded and uploaded to your account. The web app requires an active subscription or trial.

The toolbar uses icons instead of text labels. Hover over an icon for a moment and its name appears.

  1. Select the pencil icon (Toggle drawing tools) on the toolbar. A row of drawing icons opens next to it.
  2. Choose a tool, such as the Pen tool, Highlighter tool, Text tool, Shape tool, Arrow tool or Image tool, and draw or place an annotation on the page.
  3. Use the color and stroke controls for new annotations. Use the Select tool to move or resize items, the Eraser tool to remove them, or the Undo and Redo icons to adjust changes.
  4. Press Esc or select the pencil icon again (it turns into a close button) to leave drawing mode. Annotations stay on the page after you leave drawing mode. To remove them, select the trash can icon (Clear canvas) while drawing mode is on.

While drawing mode is on, press 1 for the Select tool, 2 Pen, 3 Highlighter, 4 Eraser, 6 Text, 7 Shape and 8 Arrow. 5 opens the color picker and 9 opens the image picker. Press 0 to clear the canvas, Ctrl + Z on Windows/Linux or ⌘Z on Mac to undo and Ctrl + Shift + Z on Windows/Linux or ⌘⇧Z on Mac to redo. The number keys do not work while you are typing in a text box or editing text on the canvas. You can also assign a key to Toggle drawing mode in Chrome. See keyboard shortcuts.

You can move the toolbar using its handle if it covers the page.
