Trim, split and rearrange scenes
Shorten a scene at its edges, split it at the playhead, or change scene order on the timeline in the web editor.
Scenes are the segments that make up your video. You can trim a scene at its edges, split it into two scenes at the playhead, or change the order of scenes on the timeline. To remove a range from within a scene, see Cut a section from a scene.
Note:This page is about the web editor. For a standalone extension recording on your device, see Cut, trim or mute a recording.
Trim the start or end
- Hover over the left or right edge of a scene on the timeline.
- Drag the edge handle inward to shorten the scene. Drag it outward to restore available footage.
- Play the preview to check the timing. If the handles are hidden, zoom in on the timeline so the scene is wide enough to show them.
Trimming shortens a scene at its edges. It does not remove a section from its middle. Leave the Cut panel before trimming, because it hides the scene edge handles.
Split a scene at the playhead
- Move the playhead to the point where you want to divide the scene.
- Select Split in the editor controls. You can also open the scene context menu and select Split at playhead.
The split creates two scenes and keeps footage on both sides. The shortcut is S or Ctrl + B on Windows/Linux or ⌘B on Mac. To place the split precisely, press ← or → to jump between scene boundaries and , or . to step one frame.
Rearrange scenes
Drag a scene left or right on the timeline to change its position in the video. Rearranging changes scene order. It does not shorten or split a scene.
For templates, saved scenes and timeline timing lanes, see Work with scenes and the timeline. To change a scene's playback rate, see Change scene speed.
