Export and download a video
Download your web app video as MP4, GIF, audio, a single image, or captions, and choose options like resolution and speed.
Export creates an output file from your project. It is separate from automatic project saving.
Note:This page is about videos saved to your Screenity account. For a standalone extension recording on your device, see Download a recording.
- Open the video, select Share, then choose Download.
- Choose the output Type: Video, Image or Captions & transcript. Captions & transcript only appears when the video has a transcript.
- Choose the options that appear for that type. They are described below.
- Select the download button. If the video needs processing first, wait for it to finish, then save the file when prompted.
Video
Under Video format, choose MP4, GIF or Audio.
- MP4 is the full video. If the video has a transcript, Captions lets you choose Burned in to show the captions in the picture, or None. Resolution is HD or 4K. 4K is unavailable when the recording was not captured in 4K. Speed changes how fast the video plays, and each option shows the length the video will come out at. On longer videos, Speed also offers Timelapse, where you pick a target length. A timelapse has no audio.
- GIF makes a short animated clip. Set Start with the slider or by typing a time in seconds, then choose its Length (3, 5 or 10 seconds) and its Size. A GIF is always a short clip, so use MP4 for anything longer.
- Audio downloads the sound only, as an M4A file. Speed applies here too.
Image
Choose Image to download a single frame. Drag the slider, or type a time in seconds, to pick the frame. A preview shows what you will get. Then choose JPG, PNG or WebP, and a Size of Small, Medium or Large.
Captions and transcript
Choose Captions & transcript to download the text as SRT, VTT or Plain text.
Progress, canceling and limits
After you start a download, the window shows Preparing download with a progress bar. Select Cancel at any time to stop it. The window then says Download canceled and nothing is downloaded. Choose Back to download to start again.
The export uses the same renderer as the editor, so the file should match your preview. Where your browser and project allow it, the export renders in your browser tab, and it may use your computer's hardware video encoding. If so, the window asks you to keep the tab open and runs faster while the tab is in focus. Otherwise the export runs on Screenity's servers. You can close the window, and Screenity emails you when the download is ready. Long videos always run on the servers.
There is no monthly export limit. A very large number of exports in a short time can still be held back by a safety limit on how many run at once or per day. If that happens, try again later.
