Cut, trim or mute a recording

Trim a recording, remove a section, or mute part of its audio in the Screenity extension's local editor before you download it.

After a standalone recording, use the extension's local editor to trim, cut or mute it.

Note:

This page is about the extension's local editor. If your video is in the Screenity web app, its editor works differently. See Trim, split and rearrange scenes or Cut a section from a scene.

To crop the picture instead, see Crop a recording.

How to use the editor

  1. In the recording player, select Edit video.
  2. Drag the selection handles to choose a part of the video. The start and end times of your selection show next to the buttons.
  3. Select Trim video to keep the selection, Cut section to remove it, or Mute audio to silence the audio in it. Trim video and Cut section stay grayed out until you move a handle. If you don't move the handles, Mute audio silences the whole recording.
  4. Review your changes. Use Undo or Redo to adjust them.
  5. Select Save changes to return to the player, then download your recording. Save changes stays disabled while a selection is waiting to be applied, and until you have made at least one edit.

Cancel leaves the editor and drops your changes. Revert to original restores the original recording in the editor.

The Edit video row reads Preparing... while the player gets your recording ready. It reads Not available or Unavailable for long recordings when the recording is too long to edit. See editing long recordings.

For scene-based editing or editing with a transcript, you can upload a downloaded video to the web app. This requires an account and active subscription or trial. The uploaded file is a separate project, so later edits do not sync between the two editors.
