Terms of Service

Effective date: 1 June 2026

Welcome to Screenity! By using our product, you agree to these Terms of Service (“Terms”). If you don’t agree, please don’t use Screenity.

Who Can Use Screenity

You must be at least 13 years old to use Screenity. If you're 13–15 and located in the EU, your local laws may require parental consent. To buy a paid subscription you must be old enough to enter into a binding contract where you live (18 in the UK), or have a parent or guardian agree on your behalf.

By using Screenity, you confirm that:

  • You are legally allowed to enter into this agreement
  • You are not subject to any applicable sanctions or export restrictions
  • You will use Screenity in compliance with all laws

What Screenity Offers

Screenity lets you:

  • Record your screen, camera, and microphone
  • Edit and share videos via our web app (paid users only)
  • Use our open-source Chrome extension

We aim to provide a privacy-first experience. However:

  • Features may change or be removed at any time
  • We do not guarantee uninterrupted service or permanent data availability

Privacy

Your privacy is important to us. Please review our Privacy Policy, which explains how we collect, use, and protect your data. By using Screenity, you agree to how we handle your information.

Free vs Paid Access

Free Users (Extension Only)

  • No sign-in required
  • Recordings are stored locally in your browser
  • If you connect Google Drive, we only access it to upload videos you explicitly choose to save - nothing is accessed otherwise

Paid Users (Web App)

  • Must sign in and purchase a subscription (or start a free trial)
  • Cloud features include autosave, editing, and sharing functionality
  • Google Drive is not used or required in the paid version

You will be prompted to subscribe before using premium features. Some users may be eligible for a free trial. Trials are limited to one per customer, and misuse (e.g., creating multiple accounts to access repeated trials) is not permitted.

Payments, Subscriptions, and Refunds

  • Payments are handled by Paddle, our authorized reseller and Merchant of Record. Paddle.com Market Ltd (UK) sells Screenity on our behalf and is responsible for billing, tax (VAT/GST) collection and remittance, and issuing compliant invoices. Paddle acts as an independent controller for billing data when processing payments and issuing invoices.
  • Taxes may be added at checkout depending on your location and tax status.
  • We may change subscription prices. Any change to the price you pay applies from your next renewal, and we'll give you reasonable notice by email beforehand so you can cancel if you don't want to continue.
  • We do not store payment card details. Payments and invoices are managed via Paddle.

Free Trials

  • Free trials may be offered to new users for a limited time.
  • Trials grant temporary access to paid features without charge.
  • Trials are limited to one per customer unless explicitly stated otherwise. We reserve the right to deny or revoke trial access if abuse is detected.
  • At the end of the trial period, your subscription begins automatically unless canceled. The renewal price, billing frequency, and when you'll be charged are shown and agreed at checkout with Paddle, and Paddle reminds you by email before a trial converts.

Refunds

  • If you are in the EU/UK and purchase as a consumer, you may have a 14-day right of withdrawal for digital services unless you consent to immediate access/use of premium features before the 14 days end (in which case the right of withdrawal may no longer apply). We’ll show this at checkout.
  • Because Paddle is the Merchant of Record, your purchase is a contract with Paddle, and Paddle's Buyer Terms govern the transaction, including how refunds and chargebacks are processed.
  • Outside your statutory rights, we support refunds within 14 days if premium features (e.g., cloud editing/publishing) haven’t been meaningfully used. Otherwise, refunds are at our discretion. We'll help with any eligible refund request, which Paddle then processes.
  • Subscriptions renew automatically unless canceled.
  • You can manage or cancel your subscription any time via the Paddle customer portal (link in your receipt/checkout emails). Canceling stops future renewals but does not refund the current period.

Intellectual Property

a. Open Source Licensing

Parts of Screenity are open source:

  • Chrome extension (v3.0.0 and above): GNU GPLv3
  • v2.8.6 and earlier: MIT License

You must comply with the terms of these licenses when using or distributing open-source parts.

b. Proprietary Elements

The following are proprietary and not open source:

  • Web app interface and backend services
  • All server-side code, databases, and APIs
  • Documentation, branding, UI, and marketing assets

c. Trademarks

"Screenity" and its logos are trademarks of Serial Labs Ltd. You may not use them without permission.

d. Attribution

When redistributing the Chrome extension or modifying it under its license, you must provide proper attribution in accordance with GPLv3 or MIT as applicable.

Your Content

You own your content. That means:

  • You retain ownership of videos you create
  • We do not access your recordings unless:
    • You explicitly share them
    • We’re required to by law
    • They are flagged by our system or reported for abuse
    • You ask us for help, or we need to recover data or investigate a failed render or upload (for support and maintenance only, never for analytics, training, or content review)
  • You must have rights to the content you upload
  • Your content must not violate any law or infringe on third-party rights
  • You may not use Screenity for illegal, abusive, or harmful purposes

To run the service you've asked for, you grant Serial Labs Ltd a limited, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, transcode, transmit, and display your content, only as needed to provide the service (including generating the share links you create). This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, subject to the retention period below. We claim no ownership of your content.

We reserve the right to remove content or suspend access if we believe it violates our terms or applicable law.

You're responsible for the content you record, upload, and share, including having the consent of anyone who appears in it and the rights to anything it contains. You agree to cover Serial Labs Ltd for third-party claims that arise from your content or your misuse of the service, to the extent the claim results from your own breach. Nothing here limits your statutory rights as a consumer.

Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Abuse or overload our systems
  • Render or record at commercial scale without a license
  • Attempt to reverse engineer or decompile the proprietary web app and backend systems, or access them without authorization (this does not limit the rights you have under the GPLv3 or MIT licence for the open-source extension)
  • Impersonate others or harass users

Prohibited content

You may not record, upload, store, or share:

  • Sexually explicit or pornographic content, or nudity intended for sexual gratification
  • Content that sexually exploits, endangers, or depicts minors
  • Intimate or sexual imagery of a person shared without their consent
  • Content that is otherwise illegal, or that promotes or facilitates illegal activity

We may block or limit usage to protect service integrity.

Account Termination

You may delete your account at any time.

We may suspend/delete your account if:

  • You breach these Terms
  • We are legally required to do so
  • You use the service unlawfully or harmfully
  • Payment failures or non-payment (after reasonable notice)

We may delete associated content after account termination.

Copyright & Illegal Content

If you believe Screenity hosts or links to content that infringes your rights or is otherwise illegal, email us at support@screenity.io with:

  • Your contact details
  • A link to the content and what's wrong with it
  • The copyrighted work or right you say is infringed (for copyright claims)
  • A statement that you believe in good faith the use is unauthorized or unlawful, and that the information you've given is accurate

We handle reports under the applicable notice-and-action rules, including the US DMCA (17 U.S.C. §512) and, for users in the EU, the Digital Services Act. We'll act on valid reports promptly, let the affected user know where required, and give them a chance to submit a counter-notice. If a counter-notice is valid, we may restore the content.

Export Controls

You may not use Screenity in countries subject to sanctions by the UK, EU, or US.

You agree not to export or re-export Screenity in violation of any export control laws or embargoes.

Business Transfers

If Screenity or Serial Labs Ltd is acquired, merged, reorganized, or sold, we may transfer our rights and obligations — including data — to the new owner.

We will notify you before any material changes take effect and ensure your data rights remain protected.

Disclaimers

Except for rights that can't be excluded under applicable law (including, for UK consumers, the Consumer Rights Act 2015), Screenity is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind. Nothing in these Terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer.

We do not guarantee:

  • Uninterrupted access or uptime
  • That recordings or videos will be preserved
  • That the service is error-free or suitable for your specific needs

You use Screenity at your own risk and should back up important data independently.

Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law:

  • We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages (including data loss or lost profits)
  • Our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before any claim
  • Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for fraud, for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for any other liability that can't be excluded or limited under applicable law, including your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015

Third-Party Links

Screenity may contain links to third-party websites.

We are not responsible for their content, privacy practices, or terms.

Data Retention

We retain:

  • Paid user video and account data for as long as your subscription is active, plus 30 days after cancellation or deletion
  • Free user content only exists locally unless explicitly saved by you to Google Drive

We delete data from our systems after the retention period, unless legally required to retain it.

Force Majeure

We are not liable for any delay or failure to perform due to causes beyond our control, including:

  • Hosting or internet failures
  • Government restrictions or legal orders
  • Pandemics, natural disasters, or war

Miscellaneous

  • Governing Law: These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes will be handled in the courts of England and Wales.
  • Dispute Resolution: You agree to try to resolve any dispute with us informally before initiating legal action. If informal resolution fails, disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
  • Severability: If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest will continue to apply.
  • Entire Agreement: These Terms and our Privacy Policy make up the full agreement between you and us.
  • Assignment: You may not transfer your rights under these Terms. We may assign or transfer our rights and obligations in the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale.
  • Electronic Communications: By using Screenity, you consent to receive communications electronically, including legal notices and updates.
  • Changes to These Terms: We may update these Terms from time to time. If a change is material, we'll let you know by email or in the app. Continuing to use Screenity after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms.
  • Survival: Sections that by their nature should continue after these Terms end (such as intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, and your content responsibilities) survive termination.
