Fix missing audio

Fix a Screenity recording that has no sound by checking your microphone, push to talk, and tab or system audio settings.

Check the audio source before recording. Audio that was not captured cannot be restored by editing.

Check your microphone

  1. Open the Screenity popup and select the microphone you want to use from the microphone dropdown.
  2. Make sure the dropdown does not say No microphone or show an Off tag, and that Screenity has microphone permission. If the popup shows Allow microphone access instead of a dropdown, permission is missing.
  3. If Push to talk is switched on, the microphone only records while you hold Alt + Shift + U on Windows/Linux or ⌥⇧U on Mac. The page you're recording needs to be in focus, and the microphone stops when you switch away from it.
  4. Make a short test recording and check the playback. During a recording, the microphone icon on the toolbar (Disable microphone or Enable microphone) shows whether the microphone is on.

Check tab or system audio

Computer audio is controlled by two things. First, in the popup's three-dot menu, Include system audio needs to be checked. Second, Chrome's sharing prompt has to offer the audio and have it switched on.

  • On Windows and ChromeOS, check Share system audio in Chrome's sharing prompt. If you don't see it, update Chrome or record a tab instead.
  • On a Mac with Chrome 141 or newer, the same Share system audio option applies. On an older Chrome, a Mac can only record tab audio. Choose the Chrome Tab option and make sure Also share tab audio is checked.

Use headphones to reduce echo.

If a custom tab area does not capture the audio you need, try a short recording of the full tab and check the browser's audio-sharing option.
