Use text templates and fonts

Add ready-made text templates in the web editor, then change the text and pick a font, including display fonts.

The text gallery in the web editor has plain text, ready-made templates and styled text. Everything you add is an editable overlay.

  1. Select a scene, then choose Text in the top bar of the editor.
  2. Scroll the gallery, or use the list on the left to jump to a section.
  3. Select an item to add it to the scene.
  • Text has plain presets such as Add a title, Add a subtitle and Add body text.
  • Templates are groups of text and shapes, such as headlines, lower thirds, quotes and calls to action. A template is added as a group, so select a piece of it inside the preview to edit that text. Double-click to open the group and select one element, and press Esc to leave it again.
  • Badges, Labels and Display are single text elements with a style already applied.

Once the text is on the scene, edit it in the preview and adjust it in the properties panel. Use Ungroup on a template group if you want to treat each element separately. Time it, arrange it and animate it as described in Add text and overlays and Add animated text.

The built-in scene templates in Create → Templates work the same way, since the scene is a group of overlays you can edit. See Work with scenes and the timeline.

Change the font

  1. Select the text.
  2. In the Style tab of the properties panel, open Font.
  3. Use the tabs above the list to narrow it by style, or search by name.
  4. Select a font. Weight lists the weights that font offers.

The Display tab has bold, decorative and handwriting-style fonts for titles and headlines. Select the star next to a font to keep it at the top of the list. Favorites are saved in your browser, not in your account. If nothing matches, the list says No fonts found.

Other text style controls

The Style tab also has controls for sizing, alignment, color, stroke, background and opacity, with spacing, line height and text case under Advanced options. Background adds a fill behind the text, with its own corners, padding and border.
