Change recording settings

Set the countdown, time limit and video quality in the Screenity extension before you start recording, or use instant recording.

Adjust the countdown, time limit and recording quality in the Screenity extension before you start recording.

Set or disable the countdown

  1. Open the Screenity extension popup and select Show more options.
  2. Turn Countdown on or off.
Opening Show more options in the recording popup, turning Countdown off and on, then turning on Set a time limit and entering minutes and seconds.

When enabled, a three-second countdown appears before recording begins. Select anywhere on the page while it counts down to cancel. The recording does not start and the popup opens again.

Set a recording time limit

  1. Under Show more options, turn on Set a time limit.
  2. Enter the duration in the M (minutes) and S (seconds) boxes. It starts at 5 minutes and can be set up to 59 minutes 59 seconds. A limit shorter than 30 seconds is treated as 30 seconds.
  3. Start your recording. The timer on the toolbar counts down, and Screenity stops the recording when the limit is reached.
  4. To record without a time limit next time, turn Set a time limit off.

Change recording quality

If you don't have a subscription, set quality from the popup's three-dot menu. You can do this signed in or not:

  1. Open the Screenity popup and select the three-dot menu at the top right.
  2. Open Quality. It reads Quality: Auto until you change something, then Quality: Custom. Select an option under Resolution, and optionally one under Frame rate.
Extension popup with the three-dot menu open and the Quality submenu showing its resolution and frame rate choices.

Resolution choices are Auto, 240p, 360p, 480p, 720p and 1080p. 4k is listed only on devices with 8 GB or more of memory that pass Screenity's capability check. Options your device cannot record at are grayed out with the tooltip "Cannot record at this resolution in your device". Frame rate choices are Auto, 60, 30, 24, 15, 10 and 5 fps. Prioritize smoother motion is also available while the frame rate is Auto. The selected maximum is not a guarantee of the final resolution. Subscribed accounts don't see Quality in this menu.

Screenity remembers these choices for later recordings. Check them before starting if you want to change them.

Use instant recording

Instant recording lets you share or download a video without first editing and exporting it. It is available when you're signed in to the extension with a subscription.

  1. Sign in to the extension and turn on Instant recording mode in the popup, above Start recording. Read the explanation and select Got it.
  2. Choose your sources and start recording. Stop when finished, then use the viewer to share or download it.

Instant mode combines the screen and camera into one video. Choose the camera position and appearance before recording, because you cannot separate the camera or change its layout independently afterward. For separate camera and screen layouts and advanced editing, turn instant mode off before recording. Instant mode is unavailable while Multi is on or when recording into an existing scene.

Instant recordings open in the viewer. To edit one, select Convert to editable and read the confirmation. Conversion is permanent, so you can't separate the camera afterward, and downloading the converted video requires an export that counts toward your render quota.
