Captions use a look, which sets their font, colors, background and how words appear. Captions need a transcript first. See [Edit captions and transcripts](https://screenity.io/help/web-editor/edit-captions-and-transcript) if the panel offers **Generate captions**.

## Choose a look

1. Open **Captions** in the editor.
2. Choose **All scenes** to style every scene, or **This scene** to give the selected scene its own captions.
3. Select a look in the gallery, or **None** to hide captions.

Most looks show a line at a time. A few, such as **Burst**, **Sticker** and **Marker**, show one word at a time.

A video that already used an older style keeps it, listed as **(older style)** with **Size**, **Position**, **Dark Mode** and **Word by word highlighting** settings. Choosing a look replaces it.

## Edit a look

Select the settings button on a look, labeled **Edit style**, to change it:

- **Size** (**Small**, **Medium** or **Large**) and **Position** on the frame.
- **Font** and text **Color**.
- **Case**: normal, lowercase or uppercase.
- **Word by word** highlights each word as it is spoken. When it is on, **Highlight** sets the highlight color for looks that have one.
- **Background** adds or removes a box behind the text. With a box, set its **Box color** and **Opacity**. For the boxed looks, **Motion** chooses **Glide** or **Swap** for how the box moves between lines.

Use the reset button at the top of **Edit style**, labeled **Reset to the look's defaults**, to undo your changes to that look. In **This scene** view, the reset button at the top of the panel, labeled **Reset this scene's captions**, returns the scene to the video's captions.

## Edit the words or download captions

Correct wording and timing from the transcript. See [Edit a video with the transcript](https://screenity.io/help/web-editor/edit-video-with-transcript). Select **Caption options** to download the captions as **.srt** or **.vtt**.

To put captions in an exported video, choose **Burned in** when you download. See [Export and download a video](https://screenity.io/help/web-exporting/export-a-video).
