# Keyboard shortcuts

> Shortcuts for the web editor, web recorder, shared video player and browser extension, with Windows, Linux and Mac keys.

Source: https://screenity.io/help/web-editor/keyboard-shortcuts

Find shortcuts for the web editor, web recorder, video player, and browser extension below. Each has its own context and shortcuts.

In the web editor, press `?` or `Ctrl+/` (Windows/Linux) or `Command+/` (Mac) to open the current shortcuts list. You can also open the editor's help button and select **Keyboard shortcuts**. In record mode, the list shows recording shortcuts instead.

In the tables below, shortcuts show the keys for your device, or both the Windows/Linux and Mac keys if your device can't be detected. On Mac, ⌘ is Command, ⌥ is Option and ⇧ is Shift. Shortcuts generally stand aside while you type or when a menu or dialog has focus. A focused control can also use its own keys.

## Playback and navigation in the editor

| Action | Shortcut |
| --- | --- |
| Play or pause | `Space` or `K` |
| Back or forward 10 seconds | `J` or `L` |
| Go to the previous or next scene boundary | `←` or `→` |
| Go to the start or end of the video | `Home` or `End`, or `Shift` + `←` / `→` |
| Move one frame back or forward | `,` or `.` |

When an object is selected, arrow keys move it instead of navigating scenes, and `Space` does not toggle playback. Use `K` to play or pause.

## Scenes and timeline

| Action | Shortcut |
| --- | --- |
| Split at the playhead | `S` or `Ctrl+B` (Windows/Linux) or `Command+B` (Mac) |
| Open or close the Cut panel | `C` |
| Add a zoom at the playhead | `Z` |
| Move the scene at the playhead left or right | `Alt+←` (Windows/Linux) or `Option+←` (Mac) / `Alt+→` (Windows/Linux) or `Option+→` (Mac) |
| Duplicate the scene at the playhead | `Ctrl+Shift+D` (Windows/Linux) or `Command+Shift+D` (Mac) |
| Delete the scene at the playhead | `Ctrl+Backspace` (Windows/Linux) or `Command+Backspace` (Mac) / `Ctrl+Delete` (Windows/Linux) or `Command+Delete` (Mac) |
| Delete the selected zoom | `Ctrl+Shift+X` (Windows/Linux) or `Command+Shift+X` (Mac) |
| Zoom the timeline in or out | `+` / `=` or `-` |
| Zoom the timeline around the pointer | `Ctrl` (Windows/Linux) or `Command` (Mac) + scroll over the timeline |
| Fit the timeline to the window | `Shift` + `Z` |

With no object selected, `Alt` (Windows/Linux) or `Option` (Mac) + arrow moves a scene. With an object selected, it resizes the object instead. Unmodified `Backspace` or `Delete` acts on the current selection. An object takes priority, followed by an active layout block or zoom, then the scene at the playhead. In the Cut panel, it removes the selected range.

## Cut panel

| Action | Shortcut |
| --- | --- |
| Remove the selected range | `Backspace` / `Delete` |
| Mute or unmute the selected range | `M` |
| Clear the selection, then leave the panel | `Escape` |
| Skip word snapping while dragging | Hold `Alt` (Windows/Linux) or `Option` (Mac) |

## Objects

Select an object on the canvas to use these shortcuts. Some actions require a suitable selection, and grouping requires at least two eligible objects.

| Action | Shortcut |
| --- | --- |
| Select all objects in the scene | `Ctrl+A` (Windows/Linux) or `Command+A` (Mac) |
| Move selected objects by 1 pixel | Arrow keys. Add `Shift` for 10 pixels |
| Resize one object from its top-left corner by 1 pixel | `Alt` (Windows/Linux) or `Option` (Mac) + arrow keys |
| Copy, paste, or duplicate | `Ctrl+C` (Windows/Linux) or `Command+C` (Mac) / `Ctrl+V` (Windows/Linux) or `Command+V` (Mac) / `Ctrl+D` (Windows/Linux) or `Command+D` (Mac) |
| Send backward / bring forward | `Ctrl+[` (Windows/Linux) or `Command+[` (Mac) / `Ctrl+]` (Windows/Linux) or `Command+]` (Mac) |
| Send to back / bring to front | `Ctrl+Shift+[` (Windows/Linux) or `Command+Shift+[` (Mac) / `Ctrl+Shift+]` (Windows/Linux) or `Command+Shift+]` (Mac) |
| Flip horizontally / vertically | `Shift` + `H` / `V` |
| Group / ungroup | `Ctrl+G` (Windows/Linux) or `Command+G` (Mac) / `Ctrl+Shift+G` (Windows/Linux) or `Command+Shift+G` (Mac) |
| Delete / deselect | `Backspace` or `Delete` / `Escape` |

Resize with `Alt` (Windows/Linux) or `Option` (Mac) + arrows applies to one object, not a group or multiple selection. While dragging on the canvas, hold `Shift` to constrain movement, change the resize ratio behavior, or rotate in 15° steps. Hold `Alt` (Windows/Linux) or `Option` (Mac) when starting a move to drag a copy, or while resizing to resize from the center. Hold `Ctrl` (Windows/Linux) or `Command` (Mac) to skip snapping, or press `Escape` to cancel the drag.

## Timing and preview

| Action | Shortcut |
| --- | --- |
| Move a selected object, zoom, or layout block 0.1 seconds earlier / later | `Alt+Shift+←` (Windows/Linux) or `Option+Shift+←` (Mac) / `Alt+Shift+→` (Windows/Linux) or `Option+Shift+→` (Mac) |
| Lengthen / shorten it by 0.1 seconds | `Alt+Shift+↑` (Windows/Linux) or `Option+Shift+↑` (Mac) / `Alt+Shift+↓` (Windows/Linux) or `Option+Shift+↓` (Mac) |
| Switch between editing and preview | `P`. `Escape` returns to editing. |
| Toggle low-resolution preview | `F` |
| Zoom the preview in / out | `Ctrl++` (Windows/Linux) or `Command++` (Mac) / `Ctrl+-` (Windows/Linux) or `Command+-` (Mac), or `Ctrl` (Windows/Linux) or `Command` (Mac) + scroll over the preview |
| Reset preview zoom to 100% | `Ctrl+0` (Windows/Linux) or `Command+0` (Mac) |
| Undo / redo | `Ctrl+Z` (Windows/Linux) or `Command+Z` (Mac) / `Ctrl+Shift+Z` (Windows/Linux) or `Command+Shift+Z` (Mac) (`Control` + `Y` also redoes on Windows/Linux) |

## Web recording

These keys work when the Screenity recording tab is in front. They do not work in the floating window or when another tab or window is in front. Editor shortcuts are unavailable in record mode.

| Action | Shortcut |
| --- | --- |
| Stop an active recording | `Space` |
| Pause or resume an active recording | `Alt+Shift+M` (Windows/Linux) or `Option+Shift+M` (Mac) |
| Ask to discard an active take | `Escape` |
| Leave record mode or cancel the countdown | `Escape` |
| Move a focused scene in the recording strip | `Alt+←` (Windows/Linux) or `Option+←` (Mac) / `Alt+→` (Windows/Linux) or `Option+→` (Mac) |
| Stop editing the teleprompter script | `Escape` |

## Watching a shared video

The video player has its own shortcuts. Press `?` on the video page to show or hide its list. Keys may instead operate a focused control, text field, menu, or dialog.

| Action | Shortcut |
| --- | --- |
| Play or pause | `Space` or `K` |
| Back / forward 5 seconds | `←` / `→` |
| Back / forward 10 seconds | `J` / `L` |
| Jump to a tenth of the video | `0`–`9` |
| Go to the start / end | `Home` / `End` |
| Mute / unmute | `M` |
| Toggle full screen | `F` |
| Toggle captions, when available | `C` |
| Slower / faster playback | `<` / `>` |

## Browser extension

These are the extension's shortcuts, separate from the web app and editor shortcuts above. Chrome's defaults use `Alt` on Windows/Linux and `Option` on Mac. Open `chrome://extensions/shortcuts` to check or change your assignments. Available commands and assignments can vary. See [how to use and customize extension shortcuts](https://screenity.io/help/get-started/how-to-use-and-set-keyboard-shortcuts) for setup details.

| Action | Default shortcut |
| --- | --- |
| Start recording with the last settings | `Alt+Shift+G` (Windows/Linux) or `Option+Shift+G` (Mac) |
| Pause / resume recording | `Alt+Shift+M` (Windows/Linux) or `Option+Shift+M` (Mac) |
| Cancel recording | `Alt+Shift+X` (Windows/Linux) or `Option+Shift+X` (Mac) |

Chrome also lets you assign keys to other commands, which have no default. They are **Stop recording**, **Toggle drawing mode**, **Toggle blur mode**, **Toggle hide UI**, **Toggle cursor options** and **Toggle microphone** (the microphone toggle does nothing while push to talk is on). Shortcuts set in Chrome can stop working if another extension or Chrome itself uses the same keys. Starting may require you to select a source, and camera recording requires an available camera.

### Extension in-page shortcuts

These depend on the active tool or setting and may conflict with shortcuts on a website. Push to talk must be enabled in the popup, and the recorded page needs to be in focus. Hold `Alt+Shift+U` (Windows/Linux) or `Option+Shift+U` (Mac) to turn the microphone on and release it to turn it off. With **Zoom to cursor** on, hold `Alt+Shift+E` (Windows/Linux) or `Option+Shift+E` (Mac) to zoom toward the pointer.

| Action | Shortcut |
| --- | --- |
| Undo / redo a drawing | `Ctrl+Z` (Windows/Linux) or `Command+Z` (Mac) / `Ctrl+Shift+Z` (Windows/Linux) or `Command+Shift+Z` (Mac) (also `Ctrl+Y` (Windows/Linux) or `Command+Y` (Mac)) |
| Select / pen / highlighter / eraser | `1` / `2` / `3` / `4` |
| Open color picker / text / rectangle / arrow / image picker | `5` / `6` / `7` / `8` / `9` |
| Clear drawings | `0` |
| Remove the selected object with the eraser | `Backspace` / `Delete` |
| Leave drawing or blur mode | `Escape` |

The number keys above apply in drawing mode and stand aside while editing text or using an input. In blur mode, `1`, `2`, and `3` toggle the target, highlight, and spotlight cursor effects. `0` clears those effects and blur masks.
