The **Transcript** in the editor's **Details** panel lets you find and correct words, or cut and mute parts of the recording. Scenes need audio to be transcribed. Screenity supports multiple spoken languages.

_Video: Drag across a spoken false start in the Transcript and delete it, mute a name, then restore a word that was already cut._

## Correct the wording

1. Open **Details** and choose **Transcript**. If no transcript exists, choose **Generate transcript** when available and wait for it to finish.
2. Select a word to correct its text. Use the search icon at the top of the panel to find words.
3. Review the transcript and captions against the audio. Use the transcript menu's **Restore original wording** if you want to undo wording corrections across the video.

Correcting text changes the wording. It does not remove the spoken audio.

## Cut or mute speech

1. Drag across the words you want to change in the transcript. A small menu appears under the selection. To work on a single word, select it and use **Delete from video** or **Mute in video** in the toolbar that appears.
2. Choose **Delete** (it shows the number of words, such as **Delete 20 words**) to cut the selected section out of the video, picture and sound together. Choose **Mute** to silence the section and keep the picture. Cut words are struck through with a solid line and muted words with a dotted line.
3. Play the result. To bring a cut back, select a struck-through word, or drag across several, and choose **Restore**. To unmute, select the muted word and choose **Unmute**. **Undo** also reverses your last change.

The transcript menu can also offer **Remove silences** or **Remove filler words** when available. Review automatic cuts, because filler removal depends on the language. **Reset all cuts** removes every cut across the video, including automatic ones, but muted sections stay muted. Restoring wording and restoring video cuts are separate actions.

## Change language

If automatic detection chose the wrong language, or you need to transcribe a scene in a different language:

1. Select the scene with audio in the timeline, then open the transcript menu and choose **Change spoken language**.
2. Choose the language spoken in the video. If you only want to re-transcribe the selected scene, turn off **Apply to all scenes**. This is available when the video has more than one scene with audio and one of them is selected. Leave it on to re-transcribe all scenes with audio.
3. Choose **Re-transcribe in** your language and wait for it to finish. Review the new words and captions.

Re-transcribing puts any words you've edited in those scenes back to the original wording. The dialog tells you how many scenes this affects, and you can undo the change. If transcription is already running, wait for it to finish before changing the language. The menu also offers **Re-transcribe all scenes**, and a scene whose transcription failed shows **Retry transcription**. Scenes without audio cannot be transcribed.

In **Preferences** settings, **Transcription language** sets the default spoken language for new recordings. Choose **Automatic** to detect it. Choosing a spoken language is not the same as translating captions for viewers. Translation controls are available only when that feature is enabled.
