Layouts control how your screen and camera appear together.

_Video: Choose Side by side in the Layout panel, add a layout change on the timeline, set the new block to Full camera, give it a Smooth transition in and out, then play through the change._

1. Select a scene on the timeline and open **Layout**.
2. Choose an available layout, such as **Side by side**, **Presenter**, **50/50**, or **Picture in picture**.
3. Adjust the available screen and camera options and review the preview.

Choose **Custom** to place the screen and camera freely, starting from the arrangement you have now, and use **Visibility** to show the screen, the camera or both. Choose **None** to hide both the screen and the camera, for example when you only want text or shapes showing.

A layout you choose applies to the whole scene, unless a layout change is selected on the timeline (see below).

Available layouts depend on the sources in the scene. Use [Crop and frame your video](https://screenity.io/help/web-editor/crop-and-frame) to adjust what is visible inside a source.

## Change layouts during a scene

1. Select the scene, open **Layout** and position the playhead where the new arrangement should start.
2. Select **Add layout change**. A block appears on the timeline at the playhead and is selected, so choose its layout in the **Layout** tab and the preview shows it straight away.
3. Move or resize the block on the timeline to adjust when the arrangement appears and how long it lasts.
4. With the block selected, open **Transition**. **Transition in** sets how the new layout arrives and **Transition out** sets how the scene returns to its original layout. **None** cuts directly. **Quick**, **Smooth** and **Slow** animate the change at different speeds.
5. Play through the change to check the timing. Select a layout block and use the delete control to remove it, or press `Backspace` while **Layout** is open.

A new layout change lasts 3 seconds, or less if the scene ends or another change starts first. If the playhead is inside an existing change, the new one starts after it. If there isn't enough space for another change, move the playhead or adjust an existing block. **Add layout change** appears for scenes that have a camera or screen, and you can't use it while recording.

## Animate the camera or screen

You can also animate a source at the beginning or end of a scene. Select the camera or screen in the preview, then choose **Animate**. Choose an **In** or **Out** preset and adjust its duration and any available direction or easing controls. Choose **None** to remove that animation. Preview the scene to check the result.

These animations affect the camera or screen as it enters or leaves the scene. Layout transitions change their arrangement during the scene.
