# Record a custom area

> Record just part of a browser tab with the Screenity extension by choosing a custom area, instead of capturing the whole page.

Record a selected area of a browser tab instead of the whole page.

## Enabling tab area recording

1. Open the Screenity popup and select **Tab area**.
2. Turn on **Set an area to record in**. A selection box appears on the page.

This option needs Chrome 110 or later. On an older version the popup shows "Custom area recording disabled" and "Update Chrome version to 110+". **Tab area** is also grayed out on pages where tab recording is not possible, with the tooltip "Tab recording is disabled on this page".

## Setting the area to record in

1. Drag the box to move it and drag its handles to resize it. You can also type a width (**W**) and height (**H**) in the popup.
2. Select **Start recording** and confirm Chrome's sharing prompt. The recording is limited to the box.

To include the tab's sound, keep **Include system audio** turned on in the popup's three-dot menu. It is on by default. Chrome's sharing prompt also decides whether tab audio is shared, so make a short test recording first.
