# Hide or show the toolbar

> Choose whether the Screenity recording toolbar appears, hide it before a recording, or keep it out of sight until you need it.

You can hide the toolbar or change when it appears.

The toolbar can appear in the recording when it is visible over the captured content. Hide it if you do not want viewers to see it, and check the result for your chosen capture source.

## Hiding options

1. Before recording, open the Screenity popup and select **Show more options**.
2. Select the **Hide toolbar** label (it has a small arrow) and choose **Hide toolbar** or **Hide toolbar when not in use**, then turn the switch on.
3. To show the toolbar again for a later recording, open the popup after finishing and turn the switch off.

**Hide toolbar** removes the toolbar completely. Drawing and blur modes are switched off while it is hidden. **Hide toolbar when not in use** keeps the toolbar on the page but invisible until you move the pointer over it.

You can also hide the toolbar before you start recording. Move the pointer over it, select the small close button that appears, and Screenity shows "Toolbar hidden. Re-enable it in the popup options."

During an active recording, selecting the Screenity extension icon finishes the recording. To pause or cancel without the toolbar, use `Alt+Shift+M` (Windows/Linux) or `Option+Shift+M` (Mac) to pause or resume, or `Alt+Shift+X` (Windows/Linux) or `Option+Shift+X` (Mac) to cancel. Canceling with the shortcut discards the recording straight away, without asking. You can also assign a key to **Toggle hide UI** in Chrome, which hides the toolbar completely or shows it again, and a key to **Stop recording**.
