## What can Screenity do?

Screenity records your screen and camera, then lets you edit, share and export the result. The Chrome extension records on your device, and the web app adds a scene-based editor, a video library, share links, captions and exports. See [what Screenity can do](https://screenity.io/help/introduction/what-screenity-can-do) for the full list.

## What are Screenity's main specs?

- The standalone extension can record at up to 4K and 60 fps, depending on your device and screen. It is open source, records on your device without an account, and adds no watermark.
- In the web app, transcripts can use any of 99 spoken languages, or Automatic detection. New recordings can get an AI-written title, summary and chapters, which you can edit or turn off in Preferences. Silences and filler words can be removed from a transcribed video.
- The web app exports MP4, GIF, audio only, a single frame as JPG, PNG or WebP, and captions as SRT, VTT or plain text.
- A shared video can be private, open to anyone with the link, protected by a password, or available as an embed only.

## Does Screenity use AI?

Screenity can use AI to draft a video's title, summary and chapters. This happens in the web app, from the video's transcript. The extension on its own, without an account, does not use it.

For new recordings in your account, these drafts are on by default. Each has its own setting in **Settings**, **Preferences** and can be turned off. If you turn them off, Screenity does not write them automatically. You can also ask for a summary yourself in the editor, and you can edit or remove anything it writes.

The transcript itself is made by Screenity's own transcription service, not by a third-party AI provider. To write a title, summary or chapters, only the transcript text is sent to an AI provider hosted in the EU. Your video and audio are not sent for this. Summaries and chapters are visible to anyone who can view the video. See [privacy and your data](https://screenity.io/help/privacy/privacy-and-data#ai-titles-summaries-and-chapters) and the [Privacy Policy](https://screenity.io/privacy-policy).

## What can I do without an account?
<span id="whats-free-and-what-requires-a-subscription"></span>

The Chrome extension is open source and works without an account: you can record, annotate and download videos on your device. An account adds the Screenity web app, with the editor, your library, sharing and cloud features, which currently need a subscription or an available trial. See [what Screenity can do](https://screenity.io/help/introduction/what-screenity-can-do), [trials and subscriptions](https://screenity.io/help/account-plans/trials-and-subscriptions) and the [Terms of Service](https://screenity.io/terms).

## Do I need the extension to record?

No. You can record from the editor using the built-in browser recorder. The extension adds recording tools such as annotations and click detection, and can also be used on its own. See [recording modes and devices](https://screenity.io/help/web-recording/recording-modes-and-devices) and [make your first extension recording](https://screenity.io/help/recording/making-your-first-recording).

## Can I create a video without recording?

Yes. You can [upload media or import a Loom video](https://screenity.io/help/web-library/import-videos), or build scenes in the editor with text, shapes and images. See [work with scenes](https://screenity.io/help/web-editor/work-with-scenes) and [add text and overlays](https://screenity.io/help/web-editor/add-text-and-overlays).

## Which browsers and devices can I use?

Use the extension on a computer with a supported Chromium-based browser, such as Chrome. The web editor and recorder are intended for a desktop browser. See [extension requirements](https://screenity.io/help/get-started/what-are-the-technical-requirements-for-using-screenity) and [web app getting started](https://screenity.io/help/web-started/get-started-with-screenity).

## Can I use Screenity offline?

The standalone extension can make local recordings after you've installed and set it up online. Connected features and Google Drive need a connection. See [extension requirements](https://screenity.io/help/get-started/what-are-the-technical-requirements-for-using-screenity#can-i-use-it-offline).

## Where are my recordings stored?

Without an account, the extension records on your device and nothing is sent to Screenity. The only exception is if you connect a service such as Google Drive and choose to save a video there. When you are signed in, your videos are uploaded to your Screenity account so they can be edited, transcribed, stored and shared. See [privacy and your data](https://screenity.io/help/privacy/privacy-and-data) and the [Privacy Policy](https://screenity.io/privacy-policy) for the details.

## Can I edit an extension recording in the web app?

Yes, but not automatically. A recording made without an account stays on your computer, so download it and [upload it](https://screenity.io/help/web-library/import-videos) to your library. The upload becomes a separate project, so edits do not sync between the two. The camera and screen are combined into one video, so you cannot separate them or change the camera layout afterward.

## How do I share a video?

For a standalone recording, download a file or save it to Google Drive and use Drive's sharing controls. For a video saved to your Screenity account, choose an access setting and share its link, or export a file. See [share extension recordings](https://screenity.io/help/recording/how-to-share-videos-with-others) and [share a video](https://screenity.io/help/web-sharing/share-a-video).

## What happens when my trial or subscription ends?

You can no longer record, edit or publish until you resubscribe. If a trial ends without becoming a paid subscription, your public links and embeds stop working, and your videos and account data become eligible for deletion after 30 days. If a paid subscription ends, your videos stay saved and public links and embeds keep working for 90 days, then become private. Resubscribing restores them. Download copies of anything you want to keep, and see [trials and subscriptions](https://screenity.io/help/account-plans/trials-and-subscriptions) and the [Terms of Service](https://screenity.io/terms) for the full details.
