The standalone extension processes recordings on your device, and processing a long recording can use a lot of time and memory. Because of this, editing has a length limit. The limit is 60 minutes at most, and 7 minutes for some recordings, such as ones recovered after an interruption.

This page is about the free extension without an account, where recordings are processed on your device. If you're signed in to Screenity and your video is saved to your account, there's no such length limit, because you edit it in the web app instead. See [Editor overview](https://screenity.io/help/web-editor/editor-overview).

## What you see when a recording is too long

Depending on the recording, the player shows one of these:

- A **Long recording** notice that reads "Your recording is complete and safe. Download as WebM below." **Edit video**, **Crop**, **Add audio** and the MP4 and GIF downloads read **Unavailable for long recordings**.
- A **Video too long to process in device** notice that reads "Editing and MP4 export are unavailable". If the recording is already an MP4, it reads "Editing features are unavailable" instead.
- **Not available** under the editing rows, with no notice.

## What you can still do

Download your recording before trying anything else. Under **Export**, **Download as .webm** is offered, and **Download as .mp4** stays available when the recording was already an MP4. **Download raw video file** under **Advanced** saves the original recording.

If the player shows the **Video too long to process in device** notice, select **Learn more**, then **I understand the risk, try anyway**, to process the recording regardless. It may take a long time or fail on your device.

GIF export has a 30-second limit. Connected recordings use a different editing workflow.
