> Find out why the Screenity extension can take a while to process a recording on your device, and how to speed it up.

The standalone extension processes video on your device. Processing time depends on the recording and your device.

This page is about the free extension without an account, where recordings are processed on your device. If you're signed in to Screenity and your video is saved to your account, you work on it in the web app instead. See [Editor overview](https://screenity.io/help/web-editor/editor-overview).

## What does processing mean, and why does it take so long?

The player gets the recording ready for editing and for formats such as MP4. While it works, the **Edit video**, **Crop**, **Add audio**, MP4 and GIF rows read **Preparing...**, with a percentage once progress is known. They can't be used until it finishes. Long recordings can take a lot of time and memory. See [editing long recordings](https://screenity.io/help/editing/why-is-editing-disabled-on-long-videos-by-default) for the length limits.

## How can I make it faster?

Close other heavy apps and tabs, then give it time. For your next recording, try a lower **Resolution** under **Quality** in the popup's three-dot menu. See [change recording quality](https://screenity.io/help/recording/how-to-set-or-disable-the-countdown-before-recording#change-recording-quality).
