After a standalone recording, download a copy from the player to keep it on your device.

This page is about standalone extension recordings. If the video is saved to your Screenity account, you export it from the web app instead. See [Export and download a video](https://screenity.io/help/web-exporting/export-a-video).

1. Finish your recording and wait for the player to open.
2. Under **Export**, choose **Download as .mp4** (marked as recommended), **Download as .webm** or **Download as .gif**.
3. Choose where to save the file if your browser asks.

The MP4 and GIF rows read **Preparing...** while the player gets the recording ready. Wait for that to finish before you select them.

GIF export is limited to videos of up to 30 seconds. For a longer recording, trim it first with [Edit video](https://screenity.io/help/editing/how-to-cut-trim-or-mute-parts-of-your-video).

For a recording that is too long to process, the MP4 and GIF rows read **Unavailable for long recordings**, but **Download as .webm** still works. See [long recordings](https://screenity.io/help/editing/why-is-editing-disabled-on-long-videos-by-default).

The **Advanced** section also has **Download raw video file**, which saves the original recording without any processing. It can be very large and may not play on every device, so use it if the processed video has a problem.

To edit or share a downloaded file from your Screenity account, [upload it to the web app](https://screenity.io/help/web-library/import-videos). The web app requires an account and active subscription or trial. A standalone recording does not automatically appear there.
