# Crop a recording

> Crop a recording to just part of the picture in the Screenity extension's local editor, then download the cropped version.

After a standalone recording, use the extension's local editor to crop the picture to the part you want.

This page is about the extension's local editor. If you're editing a video in the Screenity web app, its crop works differently. It crops a scene's screen or camera separately. See [Crop and frame your video](https://screenity.io/help/web-editor/crop-and-frame).

## How to crop

1. In the recording player, find the **Edit** section and select **Crop** (*Crop and resize the video*).
2. Move and resize the crop box on the preview of your video. You can also type exact values, in pixels, for **Width**, **Height**, **Left** and **Top**.
3. Select **Save changes**. The button shows the progress while the video is processed.
4. When the player returns, the cropped recording replaces the original in the player, and a message confirms **Changes saved**. Then [download your recording](https://screenity.io/help/editing/how-to-download-your-videos).

**Cancel** closes the crop view and discards your edits. **Revert to original** restores the recording as it was before you cropped it.

## When Crop is unavailable

While the player is getting your recording ready, the Crop row reads **Preparing...** with a percentage, and Crop can't be used until that finishes. Crop also can't be used on a recording that is too long to edit. The row then reads **Not available** or **Unavailable for long recordings**. See [editing long recordings](https://screenity.io/help/editing/why-is-editing-disabled-on-long-videos-by-default).

Cropping runs on your device, so it can take a while. The crop view shows a notice titled **Cropping might take a while**.
